When Is Life Acceptable                   Moises Cortez P.4

When is violence an acceptable means of solving a problem? Violence is an acceptable means of solving a problem when there’s no last resort. There will be times when the problem will be too big or out of control and the last resort will be violence such as war. For example, during the Civil Rights Movement, the only way to make Americans aware of racism was violence, all those massacres, the lynching, and those marches where African Americans were brutally hurt and many times killed. Wise African Americans knew that if they gave themselves up for whites to hurt them for instance on national TV. Then that would help solve racial discrimination. So in many of these cases violence was an acceptable means for solving a problem. Mainly people have to understand why they are alive and what purpose they serve to themselves, to others, and to the world.
People need to know what life is worth sacrificing for. I would sacrifice my life for most importantly my family, and I would also sacrifice it for my country; just like those millions who also have for their country and their freedom. It is important to know what your life is worth sacrificing for because there will be cases when it’s important to know for example your daughter or son is about to die and he or she needs another heart or lung; you need to know that your sacrificing your life for someone else who has a life to live; you have already lived yours and you have to be willing to give it up for someone else that’s life is more important than yours.
What determines the value of people’s lives? The only person that determines the value of my life is God himself and also myself  I’m the one who determines the value of my life, I’m the one who makes the choices and decisions therefore I’m the one who determines the value of my own life. In my beliefs I will always believe that God is with me wherever I am and wherever I go. He will be there when I make decisions and take chances in life. I determine the value of my life and God follows me through it.
And finally, people must know and comprehend the cost of why they attain liberty, peace, and democracy. People attain liberty, peace, and democracy at the cost of those who sacrifice their own lives for the freedom and pride of this country in which we live; such as War and Activists. We have freedom because of those people who died sweating blood and tears for our liberty and freedom. For instance, Martin Luther King died for African Americans rights in America, and Cesar Chaves who stood up for Mexican Americans who were treated unfairly and paid unfairly.
A criminal act is defined in many ways to different people; a criminal act to some people may be killing a person and to other it may be as if it was for a good reason. A criminal act should be something that affects everyone such as a war; that would be a criminal act because it affects everybody worldwide, war can affect how some people live and how they are seen by others.

In conclusion, I believe that people don’t know and don’t appreciate life; people take life for granted, people don’t appreciate that they have certain freedoms, people don’t appreciate that they can vote, people don’t appreciate that they have so many privileges for free, people are just ignorant. Instead people, have to know why they are alive and what purpose they serve to themselves, to others, and to the world.

-his attitude is being realistic his against violence.

What is the speaker’s claim? Do you agree or disagree with his claim.  Explain your answer.

The speakers claim is that violence is not the answer to all big problems, that problems can be solved by peace and understanding. I agree with his claim, but then again when in history has a major problem or conflict solved by peace and love; hardly any, so I disagree with his claim because there has to be other ways to solve issues.

Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today - Yeah

Father, father
We don't need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today

Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality(police)
Talk to me, so you can see
Oh, what's going on
What's going on
Yeah, what's going on
Ah, what's going on

In the mean time
Right on, baby, right on, right on

Father, father(god), everybody thinks we're wrong
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Simply because our hair is long
Oh, you know we've got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today
Oh

Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me
So you can see
What's going on

Yeah, what's going on
Tell me what's going on
I'll tell you what's going on - uh
Right on baby, right on baby

Daunting Assignment

Two daunting tasks I have experienced were staying in the soccer team throughout the season and the other was when I went backpacking with my uncle and his friends.
Playing for the soccer team took a lot effort; I had practice Monday-Friday from 6:00 am- 8:30am and then I had school from 9am-4pm. During practice we would run 4-5 miles, do sit-ups, push-ups, lunges, and stadiums. Every day I would come back from school; clean my room, pack my lunch for tomorrow, get my close ready for tomorrow, take a bath, and go to sleep. This daunting task I experienced was just last year and though it was hard I didn't have any regrets. Backpacking was daunting because when we went out on hikes the climate was extremely hot and water supplies were short, and some hikes were just uphill to a point where it was just too overwhelming. We went on a 4 day hiking trip; no baths just dry fruit, beef jerky, and water.

Both of the tasks were apprehensive, but backpacking was the one that I really reached a point of anxiety because being out in the middle of the sierra, miles away from camp, and hungry and tired was really something I would have to think twice before doing it again.
Soccer was apprehensive but then again I had the option of just quitting.
I accomplished these tasks by just not giving up. I am not a quitter and to me the best feeling is that which you can say I have done that and I finished it. For the soccer team my father also encouraged me to stay so I was able to accomplish that task. As for the hiking trip I had no other option I had to go through the trip because I didn't want my uncle to stop the trip half way because of me.
